Dog Tired

Apparently the two dogs weren't as preoccupied with the storm as we were. They slept like this, with their heads propped up on the armrest for about an hour. I can't believe this would have been too comfy.

Wednesday's Trip

So we arrived late Tuesday night to Fruita and planned to ride all day Wednesday. We woke up kinda late, ate breakfast, and by the time we got in the truck to head to the trail head, the weatherman was talking about wind gusts up to 60mph!!! A crazy storm was rolling in and we decided not to risk it. It was a good thing we decided to head home when we did; we brought the storm with us and it started snowing here just when we rolled into our apartment lot. Check out these dark clouds! As usual, the pictures don't quite do it justice, but you get the idea. Mega-storm.

Here's Moab

Tim and I took a little trip this week to Moab & Fruita to do some riding. We spent Tuesday in Moab and rode the Sovereign Trail, which in my opinion, was a fairly difficult trail! No sweat for Tim or Jason (our buddy who lives in Moab) though.

Welcome to the Desert!

This skeleton of sorts was brought to us by Copper at the beginning of our first ride in Moab. Any guesses on what this may have been? So far I've heard rabbit or raccoon.

Numb and Number

Those are the two words that describe last night's ride up Trail Ridge Road. It started off great; JP, Gunner, Tim, and myself headed off in high spirits for a nice little ride. We left the shop at about 5:15, rode to pick up JP and then turned back into the park. Equipped with lights, we were ready for a long(ish) ride. I was kinda hurting from the get go but pushed ahead anyway (I swear someone filled my tubes with lead). JP kept getting flats and Gunner smoked us all from the very start; we only saw him again on the way back down. So it was an eventful trip. As soon as the sun went completely down, we were chilly, to say the least. My toes were numb and Tim's poor fingers were screaming at him from the cold. It was kind of a catch-22 because you wanted to ride as fast as you could to get home faster but then, the faster you rode, the colder the wind was in your face! I was laughing to myself on the way down and all I could think about was food. Beautiful ride, nonetheless. We want more participants next time!! Skinny J, where were you? And Jim, at the brewery?! Next time boys, same for you Mattman.

Holy Moly Mattman!

That's right, the clapped out Trek Fuel 90 is the lightest full suspension bike thus far. Who can beat him?!? He was supposed to ride with us last night but backed out for some silly no-good reason. Next time Mattman, next time.

Trek Fuel 90........25.74lbs.

Short but Sweet

We rode last night for a few miles, not enough though, so we're riding again w/Mattman and JP. Should be fun. If you want to ride w/us, just post it up! We're going to ride into the park leaving by 5:30. Do it!!

The Final Result

Lookin pretty! We're riding tonight again if anyone's up for it.

This should lighten it up!

Tim's in the process of putting a new rear carbon triangle on his Groover. The new fork is on, taking about a 1/2 pound off of the total bike weight. After all is said and done (before the new wheels) he should be about a pound lighter. Off to ride...if he ever gets his bike put back together! We're going to ride into the park up Trail Ridge road. It's pretty clear right now so hopefully I'll have some good pics tomorrow. If you want to ride w/us, let us know!!!

Green Ridge Thursday AM

That pretty much sums it up...we skied this morning w/the dogs at Green Ridge. Nice weather but crusty slippery snow! Fun, nonetheless. Now we're thinking bikes for this evening.

Road Bikes Schmoad Bikes

It looks like we're going to have to start categories for the weight contest. Cervenka's Specialized Sequoia (touring/road bike) takes the cake and weighed in at 24.34lbs. How much does your ride come in at? Tim's new Topeak bike work stand with digital scale has provided endless minutes of fun for us today!

It's just big boned...

Well, I suppose somebody had to have the heaviest bike. That's right Stumpy, I hate to break it to you but the Groover, even though it's steel, weighs less than you. I know, I know, you're a bigger framed bike but still, we need to do something about this. Any suggestions people???

Specialized Stumpjumper Expert 100
27.93lbs..........pictures to come.

Let the Game Begin...

Well, we weighed Tim's bike this morning and for a full suspension, steel bike it weighed in at a pretty dang small number. He's planning to get a new Manitou fork, new wheels, and a new carbon seat stayed rear triangle. Uh, that'll be nice. He's thinking that will shave off about 2 pounds. He can't wait. So now what about my Stumpjumper? Hmmmm...

Vicious Cycles The Groover
27.36lbs....pictures/proof to follow....

Attention all Weight Weenies!!!!

Come one, come all! Stop in Grand Lake Sports while you're dreaming of dry trails and weigh your bike. Joe just stopped by on his new Ellsworth's maiden voyage to weigh his rig...27.4lbs ladies and gents. How about that?! He swears 2 ounces of that is mud. Uh huh. My Stumpjumper weighed in at just under 28lbs. Tim's Vicious is up next...any guesses?

Pooped Puppies

Copper and Echo still haven't gotten up from yesterday's excursion! Well, maybe once or twice but I haven't seen them this tired ever! See below for the explanation...

Hello Snow!

Tim and I spent 4 long hours skiing yesterday around Monarch Lake! It was beautiful, not a cloud in the sky and nothing but blue everywhere you looked. Absolutely wonderful. The only downside is that it was pretty sticky at first when we were in the sun on the east side of the lake. Not too much sliding in places which made the 4 hours seem even longer. Parts of the trip seemed just like snowshoeing rather than skiing. We tried to find a bridge over the water to get to the west side and ended up crossing a snow-covered fallen tree, which I was less than excited about doing. But, some how I made it! Copper (my Golden Retriever) almost fell in the drink because the snow in the middle of the log gave way and she had to scramble out; scary but entertaining, nonetheless. Once we got around to the West side of the shore we were in the shade and cruising right along! I stopped counting how many times I fell, but luckily I'm feeling pretty good today. A learning experience, to say the least. Lucky for me, Tim is quite a patient teacher! Thanks Tim! Just to give you an idea of how long of a trek it was, our 2 tireless dogs are still sleeping almost 24 hours later!! A great way to wear them out. Is anyone else out enjoying the snow?! We might ski again this afternoon. Anyone up for a mellow Green Ridge outing?! Let us know by posting a comment.

More Snow

Sorry it's been a while since the last post, but we've been busy! Tim and I decided not to go to Moab after all since we woke up Tuesday when we were supposed to leave and didn't feel all that well. So, instead, we stayed in Grand County and played here. We skied at Green Ridge...those pictures will follow. But these pictures are of the skiing my parents and I did at Green Ridge yesterday. It was great snow; a good time.

Who Wants to Ride?!?!

Joe's new ride is calling his name! He's looking for some buddies to join him tomorrow evening for a ride down CR 5 towards Pole Creek. Tim & I would go but we're heading to MOAB!!! We'll make sure to tell you all about it when we return on Thursday. Post a comment if you're in for Joe's Tuesday night ride!!!

Thursday Evening Ride

After work on Thursday we ventured out on our bikes again, this time towards Granby. We underestimated the need for warm clothing; when we left it seemed almost balmy out! Needless to say, 2 hours later we were wishing for another layer or two! Good times nonetheless. Anyone else been riding? Glad to hear you're out and about Jim!
